Accounting Specialist ManagerJob Location: Division of Business and FinanceThis position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measuresMain Office Location: 100 N. 15th Avenue, Suite 302, Phoenix, AZ 85007Posting DetailsSalary: Up to $70,000. 00Grade: 21Open Until FilledJob SummaryThe Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA), Division of Business and Finance, is seeking an Accounting Specialist Manager to lead its dedicated Accounting Team.

This pivotal role involves the comprehensive oversight and management of daily accounting operations, ensuring meticulous adherence to all State of Arizona accounting policies and procedures, including the State Accounting and Administrative Manual (SAAM), as well as relevant federal and state regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising a team of accounting specialists, providing expert guidance on financial transactions, and meticulously preparing and reviewing financial records. This position is instrumental in supporting audit processes and reconciliations, and demands a profound understanding of governmental accounting principles.

The Accounting Specialist Manager will play a key leadership role in maintaining robust internal controls and driving continuous process improvements within the division. Job DutiesDirects daily accounting activities including AP, AR, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Including approving all transactions keyed in APP & AZ360-FINOversees the P-Card and Ghost Card process, reconciles all payments, ensures payments are made timelySupervises and supports staff including performance evaluations, workload distribution, and trainingDevelops and implements accounting procedures, policies, and internal controlsCollaborates with other divisions and agencies on accounting-related mattersCoordinates and responds to internal and external audits and prepares audit documentationKnowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)Knowledge of:

Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)State of Arizona Accounting Manual (SAAM)Governmental fund accountingAZ360-FIN, APP, and other state enterprise solutionsPrinciples, concepts, practices, and techniques of government accounting and fiscal managementProcesses of state government, including legislative processes and administrative prerogatives and responsibilityMethods and techniques of automated financial systemsSkills in: Leadership and staff developmentFinancial analysis and report writingProblem-solving and decision-makingUse of accounting systems, Google Sheets, and/or Microsoft ExcelThe method and techniques of data processing as it applies to accounting practicesOral and written communicationsAbility to:

Manage multiple priorities and deadlinesInterpret and apply policy, rules, and regulationsCommunicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholdersMaintain confidentiality and ensure accuracyLead, supervise, and manage subordinate staffMaintain records in accounting systemsSelective Preference(s)One year experience as an Accounting Specialist Supervisor or equivalent OR Two years of supervisory experience OR two years of experience equivalent to an Accounting Specialist 3Pre-Employment RequirementsBackground and reference check, including a criminal records verificationIf this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements.
