Job Description

Description of WorkThis position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. This posting will fill two (2) positions: 60022755 & 60022747. You only have to apply once to be considered for both positions.

Work will consist of a wide range of progressively responsible maintenance tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of State Maintained roads and roadside features. Work includes installing traffic and erosion control devices, operating a variety of hand and power tools, clearing right of way, repairing pavements, assisting with pipe installation or other drainage tasks, inventorying materials, inspecting contract work and operation of heavy equipment. ?Work may require lifting to 50 lbs. repeatedly. Work will require exposure to all types of weather conditions. ?Work requires the ability to work on uneven surfaces and slopes.

?This position is subject to Emergency call back and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances. Management PreferencesKnowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesKnowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety policy and practices Experience in one of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation or asphalt patching Demonstrated ability to supervise and train others in equipment operations as well as directing the daily activities of a work crew Experience in snow and ice removal operations Experience in the operation of at least 2 pieces of the following equipment:

backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, forklift, force feed loader, asphalt distributor, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, track excavators, skid steer or sweeper Additional ExpectationsSafety toe footwear is needed for this position. ?Employee must be able to operate medium dump truck safely. Skill in the safe use & care of assigned equipment, hand & power tools, & perform manual maintenance duties & other duties as directed by supervisor. Employee must have ability to act upon both verbal & written communication. Employee must have ability to traverse steep & uneven terrain. Employee must have ability to lift 50 lbs.

Employee must be able to work in extreme temperature conditions. ?The selected candidate must be able to legally operate Class A CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions and have a Tanker (N) endorsement at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.

Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment screening.
