The paralegal's primary responsibilities will be to assist Public Protection Bureau attorneys with various aspects of civil litigation cases brought by the Office on behalf of the State of Rhode Island. Responsibilities will vary from case to case, but will include: drafting pleadings, motions, affidavits, subpoenas, and other case-related documents; organizing, preparing, analyzing, and drafting responses to discovery (e. g.
, interrogatories, requests for production of documents, requests for admissions); organizing documents on and using the Office's e-discovery platform (Everlaw); assisting with preparation for depositions; preparing deposition and witness summaries; collecting and analyzing documents for production; organizing, reviewing, and synthesizing records, conducting legal research; assisting with multistate litigation; and preparation of litigation/trial binders. An ideal successful candidate will also have a paralegal certificate or experience working in a law office or other public-facing organization, in addition to excellent communications skills necessary to speak with members of the public, and a demonstrated interest in civil and community rights work. The Public Protection Bureau within the Civil Division of the Attorney General's office is comprised of four units - Healthcare, Consumer and Economic Justice, Environmental and Energy and Civil & Community Rights. Each of these units affirmatively develops legal work and initiatives by using the legal authority of the Office of Attorney General to advance and protect dignity, quality of life and equity for all Rhode Islanders.
