Federally designated as a senior military college, one of the university's signature leadership programs is its 800-member Corps of Cadets on UNG's Dahlonega Campus.Job SummaryThe University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Student Network Technician on the Dahlonega campus. This position is a member of the Network & Telecom team and assists with network incidents and requests related to structured cabling, network hardware, battery backups, network addresses, network connection problems, and network-centered system configuration issues. Position performs physical work including the installation of network equipment and low voltage cabling. This position may require occasional travel to remote campuses.ResponsibilitiesDeploying, monitoring, and maintaining wired and wireless networking for all infrastructure services, including but not limited to structured cabling, LAN, Wi-Fi, telephony, and UPS deployment. Responds to Tier I trouble tickets and escalate Tier II, III tickets to the appropriate staff. Ensures incidents and requests are captured in the ticketing system and provides excellent customer service through timely ticket closure and accurate documentation. Assists with the deployment of physical and virtual networking. Assist in network switch and router configuration, installation, backup, and maintenance, in collaboration with the networking staff. Proactive network analysis and troubleshooting to prevent and resolve user issues. Assists with network asset management and surplus activities. Performs and documents preventative maintenance activities in accordance with standard operating procedures. Assist in the maintenance of network diagrams, perform physical cable location for underground and inbuilding wiring, and perform installation of low voltage cabling according to university standards. Performs other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesProgress toward degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or information systems desired. Basic understanding of technology desired; no professional experience required. Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Ability to multi-task, manage workload, and meet deadlines. Ability to communicate with team members and users in an effective manner.Ability and willingness to stay abreast of and evaluate emerging technologies. Ability to travel between campuses.
