We're on the lookout for a talented and curious Senior Journalist to join the Waikato Times, someone who wants to make a real impact and grow their career in a well-respected media organisation. Based in Hamilton, you'll be responsible for generating compelling, accurate, and well-crafted stories for our website www. waikatotimes. co. nz and the Waikato Times newspaper. We are particularly interested in applicants with relevant court and or local body reporting experience, but reporters brimming with ideas and curiosity should also apply.

In This Role, Your Key Responsibilities Will IncludeProducing high-quality stories and multimedia content to a consistently high standardReporting on major local issues, regularly breaking news and leading the conversationIdentifying and developing original ideas that inform, entertain and shape the local and national news agendaUnderstanding the interests of Waikato communities and unearthing the stories that matter mostMaking effective use of emerging tools, including AI, to support research, content creation and audience engagementWhat We’re Looking ForStrong journalistic skills, with the ability to write clearly and edit your own workExperience in packaging content with immediate appeal across digital and multimedia formatsHigh level of fluency in social media platforms as newsgathering and storytelling toolsA commitment to ethical, balanced, and well-researched journalismA passion for serving audiences with quality reporting and insightConfidence in contributing to a collaborative newsroom environment as well as working independentlySelf-motivation, excellent time management, and the ability to work to tight deadlinesA willingness to contribute ideas and take part in lively editorial discussionsThink you can do the job?
