SudanSUDAN - Field Coordinator (F/M) - Geneina/ZalingeiOrganizationSolidarités InternationalPosted 22 Oct 2025 Closing date 19 Dec 2025Desired start date: 15/12/2025Duration of the mission: 6 monthsLocation: Geneina/ZalingeiSOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, since more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their basic needs for food, water and shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI's interventions provide expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, the SI teams – 3200 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at HQ, and a few volunteers - intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultural norms.About The MissionWith the outbreak of the conflict in April 2023 and forced evacuation of Khartoum and West Darfur (El Geneina), SI was the first international NGO to re-enter Darfur and resume its emergency response. SI is since working in West Darfur, Central Darfur, North Darfur, Gedaref et Khartoum, thanks to the support of SHF, CDCS, ECHO and BHA. In February 2024, SI opened a base in North Darfur to provide emergency assistance to populations, as very few humanitarian organizations were operational in the state. Similarly, SI opened an office in Zalinegei, Central Darfur in November 2024. Today, activities are being implementing in West Darfur, Central Darfur, North Darfur, Gedaref and Khartoum States across WASH, Shelter and NFI support, Food Security and Livelihood sectors.In West Darfur, the main share of the portofolio remains WASH with the provision of water through water trucking, rehabilitation of water points/water yards, borehole drilling, hygien e promotion, sanitation (emergency latrine construction, semi-permanent latrine, showers, desluding), solid waste management, WASH NFI distribution, and WASH in Health etc. Besides, SI implements food assistance mostly through the cash and voucher modalities. West Darfur team also implements agricutlural support activities (seeds distribution, provision of tools, training) as well as market strengthening support.In Central Darfur, the office is still recent and needs structuring. The activities mostly focus on WASH and CVA. SI also has an Emergency Response Team based in Zalingei, Central Darfur, roving across Central and West Darfur, implementing rapid responses in WASH, Shelter/NFI and Food (CVA).SI is leading the FaSER (First and Second line Emergency Response) - Sudan, in consortium with different international and local NGOs, covering multiple sectors (Food Assistance, WASH, Shelter/NFI, Health, Nutrition and Protection).Most of the programs are being implemented in Consortium, led by SI, and require strong coordination efforts to provide area-based interventions. SI also has a strong localization approach, with diverse local partners in both Central and West Darfur.General ObjectiveAssess the security situation in Central and WEst Darfur and map local actors impacting its evolutionEngage in negociations with authorities to obtain all necessary authorisations for the development of the activities at local and national levels.Design a response strategy for Central and West Darfurs, considering existing budgets and potential new proposals.Desigh the necessary HR set-up and concept of operation.Represent the CD in local level negociations with the authorities, parners, UN and donors.The Main Challenges1 - Large volume of activities to be implemented in a complex context2 - A Central Darfur office still in need of further structuration whereas the Geneina's office is downsizing slightly3 - Access challenges, especially during the rainy season and cometimes complex relations with the authoritiesPriorities For The 2/3 First MonthsReinforce the organisation's capacity of negociations and representation with local authorities, UN, parners and donors in the area.Finalize the HR and logistic setup of the 2 bases, to reinforce their operational capacities, in accordance with upcoming programsObtain all necessary authorizations from local authorities to ensure the organisation's capacities of intervention in GedarefReconfirm the strategy set for the base, in accordance with the mission's strategySecurity ConstraintsLevel 4. With very limited/restricted movementsDiplomas And ExperienceMasters degree in a related field (humanitarian response, international cooperation, development studies, political sciences…).Experience in the humanitarian sector : 3 - 4 yearsExperience on a similar position : 0 - 2 yearsSkillsTECHNICAL SKILLS: Security and access management Rapid need Assesement Experience of Sudan Strong negociations skills Conflict sensitivy skillsTransversal Skills Work under pressure Adaptability Strong initiative capacities and solution-finding attitudeLanguage Fluent English Arabic would be an advantage French would be an assetA salaried position: According to experience, starting from EUR 3140 gross per month (2800 EUR base salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem of USD 750.SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's country of origin and the place of assignment.Breaks: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of 7 working days every three months (with a USD 850 break allowance, allocated by Sl). To these breaks periods, SI grants one (1) additional rest day per month worked.Insurance package: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which refunds all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.Living ConditionsGeneina and Zalingei are two of the main cities in Darfur, and two of the main hubs for INGOs. SI GH and offices in both places are simple but nice, with bathrooms with running water/showers, squating and western toilets / private rooms / outside space. Solar system that allows electricity most of the time.Internet and telephone network : Satellite internet in office and GH available 24/7. No 4G network and very limited phone network available.Restaurant & social life : Very few restaurants and Limited social life, mostly with the INGOs present in town, curfew at 8pm. Both cities offer pretty dynamic markets where expatriate can go to purchase what they need on weekends. Some areas can be accessed for a picknick under the mango trees, in Geneina on the weekends.
