The Proximate Fund introduces a bold, trust-based model that enables donors to directly support proximate leaders and organizations, investing in development priorities identified and driven by communities themselves. Beginning with pilots in three countries, the Fund aims to build a new philanthropic infrastructure across Africa, one that centers local decision-making, leadership, and control of resources. PURPOSEThe Sudan Proximate Fund will serve as a financing mechanism to support humanitarian response, reconstruction, and longer-term development initiatives across Sudanese communities, including Emergency Response Rooms, mutual aid initiatives, diaspora initiatives, community-based organizations (CBOs), and small and medium enterprises with direct impact on people’s lives. The Sudan Fund Manager will work closely with the Sudan Fund MD to:Oversee the design and implementation of grant-making and disbursement mechanisms tailored to low-capacity groups operating in a conflict-affected context.Embed trust-based, community-led approaches while maintaining proportionate due diligence and risk-management systems that protect communities, partners, and Adeso.Support inclusive engagement of Sudanese communities globally, ensuring that the Fund’s governance, processes, and learning center proximate leadership and diverse voices. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Fund Development and ManagementSupport implementation and regular review of the 6-month roadmap for establishing and operationalizing the Sudan Proximate Fund.Oversee grant instruments appropriate for low-capacity and informal groups.Apply risk-proportionate due diligence and financial management standards.Oversee budget management, cash-flow planning, and financial reporting.Collaborate on funding proposals and sustainability plans. Strategic Community Engagement & Trust-Based Grant makingImplement and refine community mapping methodologies.Facilitate participatory processes across Sudanese communities.Build and maintain trust-based relationships with grantees.Identify capacity gaps and develop strengthening plans. Operational Implementation & Risk ManagementOperationalize the Fund’s SOPs and due diligence tools.Monitor grant budgets and utilization.Support partners in documentation and safeguarding compliance. Knowledge Management, Learning & Capacity BuildingCapture learning from each grant cycle.Develop user-friendly tools and resources for grantees.Mentor emerging Sudanese funders and proximate leaders. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSMinimum 7 years’ experience in fund management or related fields.Experience working in conflict-affected settings.Proven experience with grant-making.Strong understanding of humanitarian financing and risk management.Experience supporting low-capacity organizations.Excellent communication skills.Fluency in English and Arabic (Sudanese dialect). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSDeep understanding of challenges facing Sudanese communities.Background in participatory or decolonial approaches.Experience with fund governance frameworks.Experience using digital and low-tech platforms APPLICATION PROCESSThis is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and highly motivated professional.
