The Engine Rating contributes so the vessel is always available to be deployed in a safe and efficient manner, as directed by the Chief Engineer and always in accordance with HMS policies/procedures and according to local legislation when applicable. To perform all work tasks safely and if in doubt before the work start ask the Chief Engineer for guidancePropose initiatives for raising the onboard safety levelActive participation in safety training like drills onboardTo perform duties assigned by the Chief Engineer related to all tasks on the vessel.
To perform maintenance and housekeeping duties on deck, in the engine room or accommodation as instructed by the Chief Engineer. The Engine Rating has the obligation to Stop Work whenever a task is unsafe (by personal judgement) and then inform the Master. Deck Hands must know the procedure Stop Work that also include the `Take 5`. `Stop Work` and `Take 5` is simplest measures Svitzer have for crew to prevent personal injuries. Master is responsible for instruction.
The Engine Rating must know the procedure Proactive and Near Miss Reporting for the various type of occurrences that should be reported to the Chief Engineer or Master with the potential to cause injury, illness, pollution, defects or damage. Chief Engineer is responsible for instruction. Comply with the regulations of the company safety management system. Induction training of visitors, employees and other persons authorized by SVITZER to access the vessel where a Master, Deck Officer or Chief Engineer/Engineer or Deck Rating is unavailable.
