About the RoleAn exciting opportunity awaits for an experienced Head of Operations to drive the day-to-day functions of a pioneering deep-tech startup. The Head of Operations will shape and execute the company’s operational strategy and support the executive leadership in scaling the business. This role is ideal for a dynamic leader who is passionate about building robust operational systems and thrives in fast-paced team.
What will you be doing?• Develop and execute the operational strategy aligned with company objectives and Australian market requirements• Lead strategic planning processes and translate corporate strategy into actionable operational plans• Monitor and report on operational performance metrics and KPIs to the Chief Operating OfficerFinancial Management & Budgeting• Oversee project budgets, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and cost management• Collaborate with the finance team on End of Financial Year (EOFY) processes, including budget planning, financial reporting, and compliance requirements• Manage operational P&L responsibility and drive cost optimization initiatives• Work with CFO to develop and monitor departmental budgets and forecasting modelsTeam Leadership & Human Resources• Lead, mentor, and develop the operations team to achieve high performance and engagement• Design and execute hiring strategy, including workforce planning, talent acquisition, and succession planning• Implement performance management systems and professional development programs• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellenceLegal & Compliance Management• Partner with the legal team on contract negotiations, vendor agreements, and partnership deals• Ensure compliance with Australian regulatory requirements and industry standards• Oversee risk management processes and maintain appropriate governance frameworks• Manage relationships with external legal counsel and regulatory bodiesProcess & Technology Optimization• Work with Managed Service Provider (MSP) • Implement and optimize business processes, systems, and workflows• Manage technology infrastructure and vendor relationships• Ensure data security and privacy compliance across all operations• Manage workplace health and safety programsWhat you’ll needEducation & Experience Requirements• Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, or related field (MBA preferred)• 8-12 years of progressive operations, strategy, or general management experience• Minimum 3-5 years in senior leadership roles with direct P&L responsibility• Technology industry experience, preferably with scaling organizationsCommunication & Interpersonal Skills• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for executive reporting and stakeholder engagement• Presentation and public speaking abilities for team communications• Cross-cultural communication skills for working with global teams and diverse stakeholders• Negotiation and relationship building capabilities with internal teams, clients, and vendorsFinancial & Commercial Acumen• P&L management experience with budget planning, forecasting, and variance analysis• Understanding of Australian financial reporting standards and EOFY requirements• Contract negotiation and commercial deal structuring experience• Cost optimization and operational efficiency improvement track recordLeadership & Management Skills• Proven track record of leading and scaling teams (typically 10+ direct and indirect reports)• Strong people management capabilities including coaching, performance management, and talent development• Change management expertise to drive organizational transformation and process improvementsHow we workAt Syenta we celebrate diversity and believe that the greatest products and teams stem from diverse thinking, beliefs, and passions.
