System Engineer

Job Description: Freelance IT Systems Engineer (12 months) – Rotterdam (Logistics & Supply Chain)Start date: January 2026Location: Rotterdam (hybrid onsite/remote possible)Contract type: Freelance / zzpDuration: 12 monthsHours: Full-timeAbout the RoleWe are looking for a freelance IT Systems Engineer to support our clients digital infrastructure of their logistics and supply chain operations. Over a 12-month assignment, you will help maintain and improve the systems that underpin our warehousing, transport planning, and real-time tracking capabilities. You will work on a mix of operational tasks and project-based initiatives, ensuring that our IT landscape remains reliable, secure, and scalable.ResponsibilitiesManage and maintain on-premise servers, networks, Azure environments, and warehouse IT systems.Ensure high availability and performance of critical logistics applications (e.g., WMS, TMS, fleet management tools).Troubleshoot system issues affecting warehouse operations, scanners, IoT devices, or automated handling systems.Implement system upgrades, patches, and configuration changes in line with industry best practices.Collaborate with operations teams to support IT needs for warehousing, transport, and supply chain processes.Participate in IT projects such as system integrations, cloud modernization, and infrastructure scaling.Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation.Ensure adherence to cybersecurity standards and data protection requirements relevant to logistics operations.RequirementsAt least 5 years of experience as an IT Systems Engineer or similar role.Strong knowledge of Windows and/or Linux server environments.Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure in a production environment.Understanding of networking, firewalls, VPNs, and system security.Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V) and familiarity with containerization tools.Knowledge of WMS, TMS, barcode scanning systems, or industrial IoT is an advantage.Skilled in automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python) is a bonusStrong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment.Able to work regularly onsite in Rotterdam.Dutch and English is required What We OfferA 12-month freelance contract with competitive day or hourly rates.A dynamic logistics environment where IT directly supports operational performance.Hybrid work possibilities.An opportunity to contribute to impactful infrastructure and system improvements across the supply chain.Please apply or send your CV to cameron.hay@cdhprofessionals.com
