We are an Award-Winning IT Professional Services & Consulting firm HQ in Dallas, nearshore office in Costa Rica and have offshore offices in India.Job Title: Systems EngineerType: 6 Months Contract to Start Location: Remote – Costa RicaJob Summary: The Sr. Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in the design, provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software, across our on-premises, Azure and AWS environments. This key position is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of our on-premises systems, while also possessing the skills and foresight needed for future migrations to cloud environments, especially AWS.This role focuses on continuous improvement and operational excellence, creating efficient workflows between different systems and advancing automation throughout the organization. Essential Job Functions: Leverage extensive system engineering knowledge across a variety of technologies, including Windows Server, VMware, AWS, Azure, O365 applications, and server networking.Lead the design, installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of our on-premises data center technologies, including server hardware, virtualization environments (VMware), storage solutions, networking, on-premise applications as well as cloud applications such as O365, Sharepoint, etc, ensure high availability and performance.Administer, support, and troubleshoot VMware environments, including vCenter, ESXi hosts, virtual clusters, virtual machines, networking, storage, and resource allocation.Configure, monitor, optimize, and maintain virtual infrastructure, ensuring performance, availability, capacity, regular patches sand upgradesAssist with hardware lifecycle management, including storage services.Manage and optimize Azure AD and on-prem Active Directory, implementing secure access controls, Single Sign-On (SSO), Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to protect our systems and data.Document all operational processes, hardware configurations, and system workflows within the on-premise environment. Ensure a thorough understanding of the current state to facilitate process improvements.Implement and manage a robust monitoring and alerting framework using tools like PRTG, PagerDuty, Datadog, etc.,[RR1] to facilitate early issue detection, rapid incident response, and continuous improvement efforts.Lead initiatives aimed at automating repetitive tasks, reducing operational toil, and streamlining incident management processes to enhance system reliability and operational efficiency.Engage in direct and indirect interactions with key stakeholders, third-party vendors, and internal customers to manage projects, resolve issues, and support broader technology team goals.Analyze complex system issues and leverage extensive technical knowledge to devise innovative solutions that enhance our infrastructure's resilience and performance.Engage in planning and execution of on-premises to AWS cloud migrations. Education, Qualifications & Experience:At least 8 years, strongly emphasizing managing and optimizing on-premise data center operations.Strong Microsoft Windows Server 2019+ experience required; Linux experience a huge plus.Preferred certifications in key technologies (e.g., MCSE, Server+, CCNA, Linux, VMware). Azure and AWS Certifications are beneficial for cloud migration aspects.Previous experience with Nutanix is a plusDemonstrated proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Python) to automate processes and improve system configurations.Strong experience with Azure AD/Entra, Windows Active Directory, DNS, GPO, PowerShell, ADFS, IIS, Remote Desktop Services, and PKI (MS Certificate Services) within an on-premise context.Strong experience with Dell storage technologies (PowerStore, PowerProtect) and VMware virtualizationProven track record in incident management, process improvement, and automation within on-prem data center contexts.Familiarity with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices and cloud migration projects is preferred.Experience in AWS cloud technologies, services, and best practices is also preferred.Experience in setting up and managing advanced monitoring and alerting systems.Excellent problem-solving capabilities, strong communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with various teams and stakeholders.Experience with designing and implementing DR solutions highly desired, especially on-prem to cloudAbility to manage multiple projects and tasks while being available for on-call duties to ensure round-the-clock system availability and support.
