Tax AccountantThe Tax Accountant is responsible for assisting with the accurate and timely filing of indirect tax compliance including U.S. sales & use tax and Canadian transaction tax, property tax calculations and compliance, and unclaimed property reporting and compliance. Additional responsibilities include assisting with tax audits, preparing account reconciliations, resolving customer and vendor inquiries, performing tax research, and assisting with technical projects including tax engine maintenance. Knowledge/Skills/AbilityKnowledge of general tax and accounting calculations and preparing supporting work papersGeneral knowledge of US sales, use, and property tax provisions (not state-specific provisions) and Canadian GST/HST, QST, and PST is preferredGeneral knowledge of SEC and IRS reporting requirements a plus. Must be detailed oriented – with strong attention to accuracy and problem-solving. “Following-up until resolved” skills are a mustExcellent computer skills. Skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) are a must. Experience with Oracle, Vertex, and Avalara preferred. A strong ability to communicate information and ideas both verbally and written so others can easily comprehend communication. Ability to successfully work with other departments in the company. Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skillsMust be able to adapt quickly to change. Ability to provide FANATICAL supportJob ComplexityPrepare indirect tax, property tax and unclaimed property calculations and coordinate filings and payments with external tax advisors under supervision of local sales and use tax expert. Assist the investigation of and preparation of responses to notices and inquiries from various taxing authorities, as neededMaintain customer exemption certificates in tax software and issue certificates to vendors, as required. Assist with tax research and analysis in order to provide a recommended solution and prepare written documentation to support tax positionsAssist with tax audits as needed, including preparation of documentation for state revenue agencies and external advisors to resolve tax controversiesAssist with the determination of the taxability of new products and services, as neededPrepare calculations for journal entry postings and perform account reconciliations. Develop technical knowledge of applicable tax laws and regulationsExperience And EducationBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline required. Master's degree preferred. Typically, 2+ years of professional accounting with emphasis in indirect tax. ERP experience strongly preferred.
