Job DescriptionThe Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities is a Crown agent under the Crown Entities Act 2004. Kāinga Ora is a public housing landlord that provides quality social housing across the country that meets the needs of New Zealanders. Through partnerships with government agencies, local councils, iwi and private sector organisations Kāinga Ora provides warm, dry and safe housing. Currently, we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with knowledge and experience of, and capability in, the following:
New Zealand’s housing and urban development system, including public housing and community housing, urban planning and design, infrastructure, construction, and regenerationperspectives of Māorithe Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti o Waitangi) and its principles and Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993perspectives of public housing tenantsperspectives of developersperspectives of local governmentbusiness generallypublic sector governance and government processes. About The RoleThe Board has wide-ranging responsibilities, including setting the organisation's strategic direction and annual performance expectations (in conjunction with the Minister of Housing), managing risk and ensuring compliance, and maintaining appropriate relationships with key stakeholders.
Board members are subject to the collective and individual duties of members set out in sections 58 and 59 of the Crown Entities Act 2004. Members are appointed by the Minister of Housing for terms of up to three years. Meetings are generally held in Auckland. Remuneration for members of the Kāinga Ora Board is set in accordance with the Cabinet Fees Framework, and the annual fee for a member is $49,000.
