Position InformationSwansea High School is a comprehensive, co–educational high school nestled in the picturesque seaside suburb of Caves Beach. In 2025 we have 740 students with 125 (17%) being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background. We have an expectation that every student, every teacher, and every support staff member will strive for improvement and excellence every year. Positive relationships and partnerships between the staff, students, parents and the local community are the cornerstones that enable Swansea High School to excel and be considered among the top performing high schools in NSW.We have been recognised by the NSW Secretary for Education for outstanding learning growth in HSC in consecutive years (2022 and 2023). Our 2024 HSC results were among the best in the school’s history with 13 Band 6 results and over 63% of results in the top 3 Bands. Our Year 9 Literacy and Numeracy value-add results in NAPLAN have been in the top 5% of the State for consecutive years in 2023 and 2024.We have been recognised by the department’s Small Group Tuition team for the outstanding Intensive Learning Support Literacy and Numeracy Programs in place for our Year 7-9 students. Our expert teaching staff are dedicated, caring, innovative, focused on continual improvement and support curriculum delivery aimed at meeting the academic and social needs of all students.We are a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school which is student led with high expectations developed by students, for students. Strong student voice and student leadership programs are a cornerstone for ensuring students are engaged and well connected to the school.The partnership we have with our Galgabba Community of Schools is widely considered the benchmark for successful transition programs between primary and high schools. Transition into the high school from our 6 partner primary schools (Blacksmiths PS, Caves Beach PS, Marks Point PS, Nords Wharf PS, Pelican Flat PS and Swansea PS) is seamless due to the ongoing collaborative programs we coordinate together.We are an inclusive school setting with our Special Education Unit consisting of seven classes: Four Multi-Categorical Classes for students with autism and other disabilities such as intellectual or physical, two ED Classes for students with emotional disorders and one Behaviour Support Class.Swansea High School is proud of the outstanding Aboriginal Education Programs in place across the school. Our Aboriginal Education Officers and the Ngaarr Dhuwi Girls Academy have proven success in improving cultural knowledge and learning outcomes in literacy and numeracy, providing strong partnerships with our local Minimbah Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), and ensuring there is strong attendance and transition points in place for all of our students.Selection CriteriaApproved to teach Music and Music Extension 1 and 2.Proven ability to plan, implement, and assess engaging and comprehensive music programs (Years 7-12) that cater to a diverse range of students, including Aboriginal students. Strong skills in creating a positive learning environment through organising, directing, and supporting music ensembles, bands, choirs, or other performance groups, encouraging participation and achievement at a range of skill levels.ConditionsAn unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
