The office also oversees University events and ceremonies, publications, both external and internal communications, crisis management, and community engagement.

The RoleLeading the Media and Public Affairs teams, the Assistant Director has the following key responsibilities:

Formulate and implement media, communications, and public affairs strategies in alignment with the University’s vision and priorities;Proactively identify, develop and coordinate compelling stories and content that showcase the University’s achievements and contributions to diverse audiences, including local, Mainland China, and international stakeholders;Lead the planning and execution of media activities, including pitching stories, handling media enquiries, and organizing interviews and events;Develop and maintain trusted relationships with community stakeholders and key local, Mainland Chinese and international media; Monitor media and current events to identify emerging issues and potential reputational risks;Assist in crisis management and provide strategic advice on media issues;Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to support communication needs; Prepare high-impact communication materials, including but not limited to press releases, key messages, media kits, briefing notes, Q&As, etc.

Qualifications And QualitiesWe look for a team leader with the following qualities: A good Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related discipline;At least 12 years of proven experience in journalism or corporate communications, with a minimum of six years in a team leadership role;Excellent command of English and Chinese (including Putonghua), with sharp news sense and storytelling abilities to craft clear and engaging content;In-depth understanding of Hong Kong’s media landscape and current affairs.

Familiarity with Mainland China’s media environment is advantageous;Strong network of media contacts, including journalists, editors, and opinion leaders;Strong leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills, with a collaborative and innovative mindset, able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; andWilling to work outside regular office hours and on duty roster as may be required. What We OfferThe appointment will be made on a two-year fixed-term full-time contract, commencing as soon as possible, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, and a contract-end gratuity together with University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary.
