Position SummaryTempo Communications is seeking a technically savvy, customer-informed Product Manager to lead the development, strategy, and lifecycle of our fiber optic product portfolio. This role is ideal for someone who has hands-on experience with fiber installations and tools, and is ready to leverage that expertise to define, build, and grow best-in-class test and installation solutions. You will be responsible for managing product lines from concept to market, driving roadmap decisions, and working closely with engineering, sales, and customers.
This role does not require prior product management experience but does require strong technical grounding in fiber optics and the ability to translate field experience into market-leading product strategy. Key ResponsibilitiesOwn and manage the lifecycle of assigned fiber product lines (e. g.
, OTDRs, loss test kits, splicers, and other fiber tools)Gather and prioritize product and customer requirements through field visits, industry events, and customer engagementsDefine and maintain product roadmaps, business cases, and go-to-market strategiesTranslate customer needs into detailed product requirements for engineeringCollaborate with marketing to create product collateral, training, and sales enablement toolsAnalyze market trends, competition, and pricing to inform product positioning and strategySupport field teams and key customers with technical product knowledgeServe as subject matter expert internally and externally for fiber-related products and use casesRequired Qualifications3+ years of hands-on field experience in fiber installation, maintenance, or technical support, with exposure to live network environments3+ years using and maintaining fiber optic tools and instruments, such as fusion splicers, optical power meters, light sources, OTDRs, fiber identifiers, and inspection scopes3+ years of experience with fiber network implementations across key markets, such as telecom, MSOs, enterprise, utility, industrial, or defenseStrong working knowledge of fiber optic technology, including fiber types, connector standards, loss budgets, splicing techniques, and testing methodologiesFamiliarity with common fiber use cases (e.
g. , FTTH, FTTx, 5G backhaul, distributed antenna systems (DAS), data centers, and long-haul networks)Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to interact effectively with cross-functional teams and external customersHigh degree of initiative and independence, with a structured approach to problem-solvingProficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint); familiarity with CRM or PLM systems is a plusPreferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Telecommunications, Optical Networking, or a related technical fieldExperience working at or with fiber test and measurement equipment manufacturers or distributorsExposure to product lifecycle management, technical marketing, or product strategyWorking knowledge of relevant industry standards and organizations (e.
