They are expected to have substantial knowledge of Austrian constitutional and administrative law, embedded in European and international developments, as well as the willingness to represent this knowledge comprehensively in research and teaching. Especially expected is a focus on comparative public law, including non-European legal systems.The University of Vienna is Austria’s largest university, and the Vienna Juridicum is the largest law school in the German-speaking world. The department has produced world-class scholars, including Hans Kelsen, one of the most important legal theorists of the 20th century and the architect of the Austrian Federal Constitution. Today, the department for Constitutional and Administrative Law covers the entire spectrum of Austrian public law, with a focus on fundamental and human rights, economic, medical, migration, and sustainability law, all embedded in European and international developments.
