Job DescriptionThe translator/linguist is responsible for translating documents from English into Estonian, editing Estonian translations or original texts, creating/reviewing Estonian subtitles for video content, interpreting from English to Estonian and vice-versa for Church broadcasts and events. The primary objective of this role is to ensure that final translations, recordings, and edited texts completely, fluently and culturally appropriately convey the original meaning of source content for the target audience. ResponsibilitiesTranslates official Church content as assigned by Language Supervisor and/or Language Coordinator. As human expert in the loop, post-edits AI-translated content to conform to Church quality standards.
Edits, reviews, and proofreads translations completed by internal and external translation providers. Post-production quality assurance of Estonian Church publications, for example print proofs, video quality checks, web publishing usability testing. Interpreting for General Conference, other Church broadcasts, General Authority visits, and official Church events on the Area level. Other duties as assigned by the Language Supervisor. QualificationsStrong commitment to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its mission. Native speaker level in the Estonian language. Successful completion of translation test provided by the Translation Division of the Church.
Bachelor's degree (preferably in linguistics, translation or a related field) or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience with expertise in the Estonian language and polished skill in writing, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and syntax of the Estonian language. Career jumpers welcome!Ability to: Navigate through translation and business management tools, web interfaces, reading briefs and instructions, including entering data and downloading and uploading files. Work under tight deadlines and under sometimes stressful situations. Welcome constructive feedback and demonstrate flexibility, teachability and open-mindedness.
Strong interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to provide regular updates on task status to supervisors and other project stakeholders. Basic computer skills, including familiarity with operating systems and Microsoft Office preferred. Knowledge of Church doctrine, policies and ecclesiastical organization preferred. Familiarity with computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools preferred.
