Reporting to Manager of Transit Network Design and Control Centre, the successful candidate will be responsible for studying, designing, evaluating and implementing long-term strategies for Transit. Guided by the goals and objectives of the City of Guelph Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Vision for an inclusive, connected and prosperous city.Key Duties And ResponsibilitiesResponsible for studying, designing, evaluation and implementation of long-term strategies for Transit including the 10-year Future Ready Plan and the Guelph Transit Master Plan.Ensures Guelph Transit is in alignment with corporate polices, plans and strategies as they relate to the planning and scheduling of transit. This includes the Transportation Master Plan and Official Plan.Responsible for the on-going monitoring and studying of the transit system to ensure adherence with Transit Service Guidelines. Create and manage and large databases to determine patterns and trends in passenger loads, boarding’s and alighting’s and in schedules and runtimes. Create Geographic Information Systems applications such as thematic maps to display the patterns and trends in a meaningful format for ease of interpretation by management and by the public.Liaise with other City departments and with other stakeholders regarding issues related to transit planning including land use developments, zoning applications, encroachments, road construction projects, special events, transportation demand management, transit priority measures and traffic management.Provide route planning advice to Engineering, Planning, Traffic as well as internally related to new subdivisions, events, construction after interpretation of all related data including route directness, stop spacing, coverage/walking distances, timing, length, safety, etc.Provide advice and reports on service design/development and evaluation issues for presentation to Council and Community representatives/partners.Provide back up support utilizing Trapeze scheduling software for operator run sign-ups every 4 months including blocking vehicles and reporting vehicle needs and run cutting blocks into drivers schedules.Participate in public communications programs including presentations to committees and interest groups and representing Guelph Transit at public meetings.Respond to public enquiries and complaints related to transit planning. Provide support and attend meetings from time to time on behalf of the Supervisor of Scheduling and Planning.Assist in public consultation, marketing and other public education efforts as required.Ensure that the planned transit service complies with all applicable federal and provincial regulations/legislation, City By-laws and the ATU Collective agreement.Perform other related duties as assigned.Qualifications And RequirementsConsiderable experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through the completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in Planning, Transportation Management, Geography or a related discipline and considerable experience related to planning in a public transit, logistics or other transportation related. Candidates with equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A valid Class G drivers licence with a good driving record. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their licence is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements.Intermediate skill in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).Intermediate skill with ArcGIS Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders and the general public.Ability to handle multiple priorities and producing quality detailed work according to deadlines and within timelines.Ability to read and assist with reports, statistical data, and technical manuals.Ability to set priorities, manage time and comply with deadlines under pressure.Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to solve complex problems.CUTA Scheduling 1 training is an asset. Knowledge and experience working with transit scheduling software Knowledge of Trapeze software is an asset.Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Illustrator) is an asset.Knowledge of community engagement techniques is an asset.Hours of Work35 hours per week, 800 AM - 400 PM, Monday to Friday.
