By fostering partnerships that enable commercial research, the role will enhance the University’s research impact, strengthen its facilities and industry collaboration, and ensure commercial research is effectively translated into market deployment. Mō te tūranga | About the RoleReporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, the Director will:
Build and manage relationships with local councils, Māori organisations and iwi, economic development agencies, and businesses. Increase commercial research operational performance while growing business partnerships and funding streams. Identify and support intellectual property opportunities and technology transfer initiatives. Mentor early and mid-career researchers to build capability for commercial research and its commercialisation, andSupport leadership of research innovation across the University to deliver impactful and relevant outcomes. Tō Kōrero | About YouYou will bring: Leadership experience in research, innovation, commercial research or commercialisation, ideally within tertiary or research institute settings.
Experience in technology transfer, intellectual property management, and building effective teams. Strong strategic planning and stakeholder engagement skills with an ability to deliver commercial outcomes. Understanding of industry needs and experience and aligning them with research capability. Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and engagement with Māori and iwi partners. A Master’s degree is essential, and a Doctoral qualification is preferred.
