Company DescriptionThornton Engineering is a proud, family-owned company established in 1975, known for delivering high-quality steel fabrication for some of Australia’s largest infrastructure projects. With a strong reputation for precision, innovation, and long-term client relationships, we are now seeking a capable and driven Estimator to join our Structural Steel Division. This is a key opportunity for a professional with a background in structural fabrication estimation to make their mark in a growing business — not just estimating projects, but improving how we do it. Drive improvements in estimation systems, templates, and procedures to enhance speed, accuracy, and repeatability. Manage supplier quotes, cost data, and estimation records using standardised processes and tools. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support junior team members where applicable.
QualificationsPrior experience in estimating for structural steel or heavy fabrication projects (3+ years preferred). Strong working knowledge of fabrication workflows, steel materials, and associated pricing structures. High attention to detail with the ability to identify scope gaps and commercial risks. Familiarity with project management and estimation software (e. g. Excel, MS Project; experience with estimation platforms advantageous). Proven ability to read and interpret structural drawings and technical specifications. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Strong time management and the ability to work to strict submission deadlines. A degree in Engineering or equivalent trade background will be highly regarded.
