BackgroundTo support effective cross-language collaboration, Inkomoko is hiring a professional French Interpreter to provide live remote simultaneous and/or consecutive translation between English and French during internal meetings, training, and workshops, primarily through remote platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet. Position Title: French Interpreter (Remote) Duration: Through end of year, possibility to extend Location: Remote (East Africa time zone preferred) Reports to: Head of Talent Development Objective of the AssignmentThe purpose of this role is to provide accurate, high-quality real-time interpretation between English and French for Inkomoko meetings, workshops, and communications to ensure smooth collaboration among multilingual teams, specifically to support effective communication and collaboration between our growing team in Chad and our other country teams. Scope of WorkThe French Interpreter will be responsible for:Providing live interpretation (English ↔ French) during virtual or in-person meetings, workshops, and trainingsSupporting simultaneous interpretation for group events and consecutive interpretation for smaller discussions or interviewsPreparing in advance by reviewing meeting materials, agendas, or presentation content shared beforehandEnsuring confidentiality, accuracy, and neutrality in all communicationsProviding language and cultural clarification as needed to enhance understandingOccasionally translating short written content (e.g., meeting notes, chat summaries, or materials) as requested DeliverablesAccurate and timely interpretation for all assigned meetings or eventsAvailability for pre-meeting briefings when requiredProfessional communication and conduct consistent with Inkomoko's valuesSubmission of a brief monthly activity summary (list of sessions interpreted, duration, feedback)Requirements QualificationsBachelor's degree in Translation, Languages, Communication, or related field preferredMinimum 3 years of professional experience in French-English interpretation, ideally in development, business, or NGO settingsDemonstrated experience providing remote simultaneous interpretation using Zoom or similar platformsExcellent command of both English and French (native or near-native fluency)Strong interpersonal and communication skillsFamiliarity with East African or Francophone African contexts is an advantage Duration and Level of EffortThe consultant will work on an as-needed basis, with an estimated workload of 5-10 hours per monthThe schedule will depend on upcoming Inkomoko meetings and eventsContract duration: Through end of year with the possibility to extend.
