This is a temporary full-time position working in the Whole of Hospital Relief Term and the successful candidate will be required to work patterns of Day and Evening shifts.Where you'll be workingLismore Base Hospital (LBH) is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service.The hospital is an acute regional referral hospital of 280 beds on the Far North Coast of NSW, serving a population of approximately 170,000 people on the Far North Coast of NSW and has a busy Emergency Department (40,000 presentations annually), ICU and Coronary Care Unit, as well as Surgery (general, orthopaedic and speciality surgery), Paediatrics, Mental Health, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.Our region encompasses World Heritage listed rainforests and the pristine beaches of Evans Head, Ballina, Lennox Head and Byron Bay. This area is blessed by year-round sun, a tropical climate and a short winter. The trainee needs to be aware of their limitations and work in a collegiate and collaborate manner.Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the trainee’s skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.The position supports meeting the prerequisites for training with the Royal Australian College of Physicians. It is designed to be an ideal year leading into Basic Physician Training; Trainees in this role will be working alongside Basic Physician Trainees and be included in the local education program.Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role (please address these in your response)Adept ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertiseAdept ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or servicesProficient verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiencesSound ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environmentDemonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk managementCommitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of Adult Internal MedicineDue to the immediate start required for this position and with ongoing delays with Ahpra processing applications, we ask that candidates holding General Registration with the Australian Medical Council only apply.
