Their main concern is ensuring that employees under their management do their jobs skillfully and efficiently while making sure assigned work is progressing in a timely manner.Essential Job AccountabilitiesCoordinating daily tasks according to priorities and plans, making changes when necessary due to weather, supply, delivery and personnelDelegating individual responsibilities and projects to crew members and contractorsRecruiting, hiring, training, managing and mentoring employees and contractorsProviding adequate resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices and safety needsEmphasizing safe use of tools, machinery and equipment while providing training on safety gear, helmets and proceduresDeveloping and managing project budgets and quality standards for all sitesResolving conflicts or miscommunications quickly and amicablyRegularly reporting project status to supervisors, site engineers and other officialsEducationHigh School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experienceWork ExperienceAppropriate training and experience requiredProven experience in the installation of dry utilities (e.g., electrical, telecommunications).Hands-on experience with water, sewer, and storm drain systems.Strong understanding of underground construction methods and safety standards.Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesCustomer-service skills to communicate with inspectors and administration to develop a positive working relationship.Decision-making skills for selecting personnel and subcontractors for specific tasks and jobs to meet deadlines and budgets.Leadership skills for effectively delegating tasks to workers.Speaking skills for providing clear orders, explaining complex information to clients and construction workers and discussing technical details Technical skills for interpreting construction methods and technologies along with contracts and technical drawings.Time-management skills to meet deadlines and ensuring construction phases are completed on time so that the next phase can start.Writing skills for writing budgets, proposals and plans along with documenting work progress for clients and others involved.Physically, Working Foremen Must Be Able ToWork easily and skillfully with handsClimb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffoldsSee well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colorsReach for, handle, and grasp wires and hand toolsBend, crouch, and work in small placesLift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.About Granite Construction IncorporatedGranite Construction Incorporated is a member of the S&P 400 Index and is the parent company of Granite Construction Company, one of the nation's largest heavy civil contractors and construction materials producers.
