Job Description

DescriptionOur mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped 2. 5 million people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles. Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team.

As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office. We’re now opening a new role for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our Future Physiology team. This is a high-impact opportunity for a deeply technical, hands-on expert who thrives in fusing physiological sensing, machine learning, and real-world biosignal R&D.

You’ll play a pivotal role in advancing Oura’s physiological feature pipeline—turning noisy, multimodal data from sensors like PPG, motion and temperature into novel, scalable, and productizable health insights. Location: Finland, we have offices in Helsinki and OuluWhat You will do: Lead the development of advanced ML models for fusing multimodal time-series data (e. g. , PPG, motion, Develop and deploy advanced ML algorithms that model biosignals (e. g. , PPG, motion, temperature, spectroscopy) to derive meaningful, generalizable health insights across diverse populations.

Leverage Oura’s large-scale cloud biosignal datasets—including longitudinal, real-world data from diverse users—to develop, refine, and validate ML models. When needed, complement this with targeted lab-based experiments to explore new sensing modalities and optimize algorithmic performance. Build end-to-end ML solutions, from preprocessing to model training and evaluation, with a focus on scalability, real-world generalizability, and physiological accuracy. Prototype and validate novel health metrics by fusing multimodal sensor streams, using a mix of classical modeling and deep learning (e. g. , Transformers, RNNs, probabilistic models).

Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including hardware, firmware, software and data infrastructure—to ensure signal quality, technical feasibility, and smooth integration of algorithms into real-world products. Contribute to system architecture decisions, ensuring that data pipelines and tooling enable efficient experimentation, training, and deployment at scale. We would love to have you on our team if you: Have 7+ years of experience in ML and biosignal processing, particularly with PPG, and wearable sensor data. Possess deep expertise in multimodal time-series modeling, sensor fusion, and deep learning (e. g. , Transformers, RNNs, TCNs), along with strong coding skills in Python (PyTorch/TensorFlow).

Demonstrate a proven ability to translate results into production-ready features Hold an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, machine learning, or a related field—or have equivalent practical experience. Bring a strong understanding of physiological systems and can apply engineering intuition to solve complex, noisy problems. Are familiar with cloud environments (e. g. , AWS) and scalable data systems, including SQL databases. Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences, and collaborate well in cross-functional, fast-paced teams. Embrace ambiguity, iteration, and end-to-end ownership—from experimentation to model integration.
