OverviewThis position will be physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP*** Under supervision of Trade Shop Supervisor, the Locksmith Lead installs, repairs, modifies, and opens a variety of locking mechanisms found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, and vaults. Examines locking mechanism and installs new unit or disassembles unit and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts, or repairs them by filing, drilling, chiseling, and grinding; opens door locks by moving lock pick in cylinder; or opens safe locks by listening to lock sounds or drilling.
Makes new or duplicate keys, using key cutting machine, changes combination by inserting new or repaired tumblers into lock, and establishes keying systems for buildings. Cuts new or duplicate keys using key cutting machinesOpens safes using drilling or manipulation techniquesInstalls new or repaired tumblers into locks to change safe combinationsOpens locked doors without working keys by using lock picksDisassembles mechanical or electrical locking devices; repairs or replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other partsRepairs and adjusts safes, vault doors, and vault componentsRemoves and applies interior and exterior finishes on safes and vaultsProvides locksmith services and assists locked-out individuals in gaining access to their residencesConducts preventative maintenance inspections of lock assembliesIssues and receives keys and maintains spare keys in accordance with AR 190-51Conducts periodic and required key-control inventories to assure accountabilityMaintains supplies such as locksmith tools, hand tools, key blanks and tagsPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsQualificationsOne year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
High School Diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid Secret ClearanceMust be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC)Locksmith certification requiredRegistered safe technician preferredA valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a USG Driver’s License is required. Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a locksmith. Licenses/Certifications: RequiredRequires knowledge of various types of locks and keys, the ability to fabricate keys, change locks, and use the tools required for this tradeMust have an understanding of safety directives and polices regarding the operation of Locksmith equipmentSkills:
Keeps up-to-date on Locksmith technically and apply new knowledge to the jobKnowledge of servicing and maintaining all types of key-operated locking systems, mechanical and electronic cipher locking systems, mechanical and electronic combination locking systems and associated hardware and key duplicationAble to troubleshoot and rebuild locks, lock cylinders and locksets to include re-pinning/re-keying locksMust be able to gain keyless entry to locked areas using standard locksmith and hand toolsFabricate keys by code using standard code cutting equipmentKnowledge of MS Office, including Word and Excel, Outlook and other related applications preferredMust have excellent communication skills in English, both written and oralWorks independently without supervisionSupervisory Responsibilities:
Shall supervise junior LocksmithsWorking Conditions: Must be capable of working in tropical weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Indoor and/or outdoor environment with varying conditions. Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. Physical Requirements: Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
