Job Description

Our Health, Safety & Environment group delivers a unified and proactive service which includes leadership, guidance and mentoring to create a world class safety culture, and is seeking a Safety Advisor to join our team, based in the General Toronto Area (GTA) or Thunder Bay, ON. Reporting to the Regional Supervisor, this position provides field level support to supervisors, foremen and workers and provides leadership and coordination of day-to-day safety requirements of assigned projects. This position plays an important role in ensuring that Valard's safety culture has been established and adhered to in the field. Please Note:

this is a field-based position with 90% of the time spent on site across Canada. This is a T4 Hourly Employee position, with a starting salary range of $35/hr - $42/hr + Overtime, dependent on experience.

Duties And ResponsibilitiesBe a visible presence and safety resource in the field to ensure a safe work environment for all Valard employees, contractors, and visitors as per the Site Safety Management Plan (SMP)Communicate, coach and assist field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are metParticipate and assist the supervisors and foreman in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actionsParticipate in regular meetings with project safety teams to review issues, trends and upcoming conditions or events to ensure safety obligations are carried out as per client agreement and communicated to the Project Manager and SupervisorsReview tailboards daily to ensure that hazards are addressed, and a mitigation process is in place; provide feedback to workers to assist them for compliancePerform observations, inspections, emergency preparedness drills, as per the current HS&E Manual and review and communicate the findings via safety meetings and postingsFacilitate weekly safety meetings, capture minutes and prepare weekly / monthly safety reportsProvide support to the supervisors and foreman to ensure that JSAs are developed and reviewed with the crews and available at the work siteRegularly review all applicable legislation, standards and inform Project Manager(s) of any relevant changesRequirementsPost-Secondary education in a related field3 years' experience in a field safety positionA combination of education and experience may be consideredNational Construction Safety Officer CertificationExperience with Microsoft office applicationsHave and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (a record) for reviewSuccessfully complete pre-access D&A checks as neededPreferred Skills / QualificationsCRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), CRST (Canadian Registered Safety Technician) or other Health & Safety certificationDemonstrated familiarity with applicable provincial legislationsRoot cause investigation experienceThis position will involve travel and overnight stays away from home (estimated up to 90% of work schedule)BenefitsWe offer a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package that includes base salary and a complete range of employee benefits, including an RRSP matching program, to ensure you have the tools necessary to manage, maintain, and improve your health and wellbeing.
