Job SummaryReporting to the Chief Medical Officer Strategy & Growth and working in close partnership with the Chief Strategy Officer, the VP of Digital Transformation, and other key stakeholders, this role will lead the next generation of Geisinger Ventures to deliver high-impact innovation through strategic partnerships and commercialization that solve Geisinger’s most pressing challenges first, ultimately building national reputation through consistent execution and scalable outcomes and sustained revenue. The VP will establish the operating model, govern the portfolio, set partnership standards, and drive measurable value to the health system while creating pathways for external commercialization. The VP also oversees Geisinger’s economic development strategy, including managing the AVP of Economic Development, with a focus on catalyzing regional growth, attracting employer investment, and aligning system capabilities to economic vitality across the service area.Job DutiesStrategy & Portfolio Leadership:Establishes GIV annual strategy and priorities aligned with enterprise goals and clinical/operational needsIdentifies and executes high-value partnerships while emphasizing Geisinger capabilities. Promotes Geisinger IP to external markets and networks across the globe Leads partnership structuring, contracting and execution. Serve as SME ensuring all deals are properly structuredBuilds and maintains a pipeline tracking system for venture and partnership opportunities that advance due diligenceManages portfolio of 2-5 high value strategic partnerships annually with clear metrics for system impact. Responsible for portfolio performance, staffing and process optimizationEstablishes governance framework including stage-gates, investment criteria, and decision-making processes. Partnership Development & Commercialization:Establishes VC networks Responsible for the identification, evaluation and structure of strategic partnerships with external companies, startups and industry leaders. Negotiates partnership agreements including co-development terms, licensing arrangements, revenue sharing and commercialization rightsEnsures partnerships align with Geisinger’s priorities and demonstrate clear pathways to system adoption Develops reusable partnership templates and playbooks to increase efficiency and consistencyLeads opportunities from concept through internal validation and external commercializationEconomic Development:Develops and implements economic development strategies aligned with Geisinger’s mission, with a focus on community health, workforce vitality, and place-based equity.Manages the AVP of Economic Development, and coordinate cross-functional input from Marketing, Government Affairs, HR, and regional operations.Identifies and activates strategic opportunities for employer growth, business relocation, and investment within the Geisinger service area.Partners with regional planning bodies, chambers of commerce, EDOs, and private/public stakeholders to expand job creation, infrastructure development, and local economic activity.Pursues grant and funding opportunities to support economic resilience and inclusive growth.Supports system growth by aligning economic development initiatives with Geisinger’s clinical enterprise and health plan—especially in geographies tied to new employer expansion or service line opportunity.Partners with government affairs to shape state and federal policy incentives that strengthen Geisinger’s role in health-centered regional development.Develops investment narratives (e.g., “health-enabled industrial corridor”) and lead storytelling efforts that quantify Geisinger’s contribution to regional prosperity and economic competitiveness.Ensures economic development strategy is integrated into Geisinger’s broader commercialization and innovation posture, positioning the system as a catalyst for community and industry advancement.System Integration & Value Realization:Collaborates with IT, innovation clinical, operational and business leaders to ensure technology transfer success In partnership with stakeholders, identify a clear system-fit requirements including Epic integration pathways, security standards, and support modelsDrives measurable improvements in clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, or financial performanceTracks and reports on partnership ROI, internal adoption rates, and realized value to the organizationBuilds relationships with internal stakeholders to identify innovation opportunities aligned with strategic challengesTeam & Operations:Builds and leads the GIV team and Economic Development teamsManages operating budget and oversee deployment of investable capital according to established guidelinesEstablishes operating cadence, review processes, and reporting mechanismsCreates a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship and measured risk-takingExternal Presence & Reputation:Serves as external face of Geisinger Ventures in the national investor ecosystemDevelops strategic relationships with venture capital firms, startups, technology partners and industry organizationsBuilds Geisinger’s reputation as a partner of choice for healthcare ventures and innovation Participates in industry events, speaking engagements and thought leadership to strengthen pipelineWork is typically performed in an office environment.
