Job Description

Job DescriptionThe purpose of position is to support the effective implementation, monitoring, and community engagement of NRC’s WASH programs, ensuring safe, sustainable and high-quality water, sanitation, and hygiene services for vulnerable populations. ResponsibilitiesGeneric responsibilitiesSupervise daily workers and incentive laborers. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines, as well as government rules and regulations. Assist with the implementation of the WASH portfolio according to the plan of action. Prepare and develop status reports as required by the supervisor. Ensure proper filing of documents in both hard and soft copies.

Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need and explore new and better ways to assist them. Actively participate in capacity-building training, workshops, and seminars organized by NRC. Contribute to organizational learning through the provision of technical analysis, lessons learned, and reports. Specific ResponsibilitiesConduct needs assessments, focus group discussions, community meetings, and prepare the assessment reportsPlan, organize and facilitate hygiene awareness, sensitization campaigns, and community-led health initiatives. Support the design, implementation and monitoring of water quality testing (physical, chemical, bacteriological) and follow-up corrective actions with the community.

Ensure environmental health standards are integrated into WASH interventions (solid waste management, vector control, drainage, safe water storage and handling). Explain to beneficiaries and stakeholders project methodology, BoQs/designs (where relevant), scope of work, selection criteria, and safe use practices for WASH facilities. Carry out regular follow-up visits with selected project beneficiaries during and post-project implementation. Prepare daily/weekly progress reports, including documentation of hygiene promotion and water quality activities. Participate in activities at distribution sites including registration, verification, and support to beneficiaries. Conduct household-level M&E activities and develop success stories from project implementation.

Report on daily activities of incentive labour and complete documentation on attendance and performance. Ensure safety and dignity of beneficiaries and workers during project implementation. Perform any other task as requested by the WASH Coordinator. QualificationsGeneric professional competencies: Experience working in a humanitarian/recovery context and public health positions. Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts. Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities. Fluency in written and spoken English. Sound understanding of humanitarian principles, SPHERE and WASH standards. Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

Minimum of a BSc degree in Public Health, Environmental Health or related fields. With minimum 1-2 years of relevant work experienceStrong background in hygiene promotion, sensitization, and public health awareness activities is desired. Knowledge of water quality monitoring, treatment methods, and safe water chain. Proven experience in environmental health activities such as waste management, vector control and community health risk reduction are desired. Good knowledge in developing and following through on community mobilization and technical implementation of WASH projects. Experience in conducting needs/vulnerability assessments and participation in beneficiary selection processes.

Experience in working with vulnerable households in camp or host community settings. Experience in field-level coordination with community stakeholders and local authorities. Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical and facilitation skills, with the ability to present technical and health information clearly is preferred.
