ProfessionalPosition DetailsSummary of Duties: As the Assistant Director of Federal Relations, you will serve as a vital member of the Washington State University (WSU) system office of External Affairs and Government Relations team representing all five WSU campuses and our global campus.
You will also play a key role in providing strategic analysis and policy expertise on a variety of topics, including budget, appropriations to advance WSU’s institutional advocacy, funding, and policy goals, provide a fixed presence with members of Congress and the Executive Branch including federal agencies, and national-level organizations. In the Assistant Director role, you will collaborate with the Director to advance priorities within the offices of the President, Campus Chancellors, and College leadership on legislative, regulatory, budgetary, advocacy, and communications issues.
The position requires detailed knowledge of the federal government, the legislative process, including appropriations and authorization, as well as the functions of a land grant university. The Office of Federal Engagement and Advocacy is the unit within the University responsible for communicating institutional priorities, developing and maintaining positive working relationships, and raising the profile of WSU within the federal government. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Required QualificationsPositions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least one (1) year of managerial experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment. Positions may require applicable licensure and/or certification.
