Job Description

The Watch Desk provides a 24/7 emergency management capability for the Queensland government and other disaster management stakeholders through monitoring, collecting, collating and analysing wide ranges of emergency management information from diverse sources to notify, inform and warn key stakeholders, regardless of operational activation status. Reporting to the Watch Desk Supervisor, you will be a member of the team responsible for supporting the functions of the watch desk capability and contributing to high quality preventative and responsive services in accordance with government strategies and community expectations.Your Key AccountabilitiesThe core capability requirements for this role are:Work autonomously and as part of the 24/7 Watch Desk team to assimilate, assess, report on, and disseminate warnings and other complex emergency information that affect the community, taking action as necessary, including activities relating to the activation of the SES.Research and analyse data from Disaster Management and SES activities, the Bureau of Meteorology, Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre, and other national and international bodies that could impact on the safety of our communities and provide reports to internal and external stakeholders relevant to their areas of responsibility.Support the SES by coordinating requests for assistance and other diverse resources, notifying appropriate management and stakeholders, and independently activating SES resources as required.Monitor and operate complex information and communication technology systems and software applications and maintain accurate records.Liaise, negotiate, and maintain effective relationship with key internal and external stakeholders (local government, state, and national level) within the disaster management environment to ensure timely delivery of supplies, resources, support, and advice both during and outside of critical incidents and natural disasters.Provide strategic advice to management and other stakeholders regarding additional staffing and the operational activation of the SDCC and SES.Coordinate and contribute to forums to identify issues arising from operational activity, develop procedures and corporate strategies, participate in projects designed to address issues, review plans to ensure consistency with best practice and contribute to operational preparedness.Undertake a portfolio of projects focusing on the long-term operations preparation of state capability for disaster management and coordination during emergency events.Role RequirementsMandatoryOfficers will work a rotational shift roster including night and weekend shifts over a 28-day period. The ordinary hours of duty, inclusive of mealtimes, will not exceed 12 hours and 5 minutes per day.OtherApplicable penalty rates apply.Applications to remain current for 12 months.Occupational group Emergency & Protective Services
