Reporting to the Head of Development, this role will involve providing proactive legal advice across the business, with a focus on franchising, property and leasing, corporate operations, and compliance. You will play a key role in safeguarding the company’s brand, assets, and legal standing, ensuring we operate in full compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and supporting business transactions and growth.Key ResponsibilitiesFranchising & Commercial LawDraft, review, and negotiate franchise agreements, disclosure documents, and renewals.Oversee franchise recruitment, sales, renewals, and terminations.Ensure compliance with the Franchising Code of Conduct and Australian Consumer Law.Support Franchise Development and Operations teams in implementing franchise documentation.Property & LeasingReview and negotiate lease agreements for both company-owned and franchised locations.Liaise with landlords and agents to safeguard leasing interests.Provide advice on lease compliance, notices, and dispute resolution.Corporate Governance & ComplianceStay informed on legislative changes affecting the business and ensure company policies are compliant.Manage company trademarks, intellectual property, and licensing matters.Oversee preparation of NDAs, supplier agreements, and contractor arrangements.Dispute Resolution & Risk ManagementAdvise and manage disputes involving franchisees, suppliers, employees, or landlords.Identify legal risks and propose mitigation strategies.Coordinate with external legal counsel as necessary and ensure cost-effective management.Strategic & Commercial SupportAct as a trusted advisor to the executive team on business decisions, risk exposure, and structuring.Contribute to the development of corporate strategies and policies from a legal perspective.Deliver training sessions on legal and compliance matters for staff and franchisees.EssentialSkills & Experience:Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a current practicing certificate (or eligibility for one) in Australia.Minimum of 5 years’ post-admission experience in commercial, franchising, or property law.Strong understanding of the Franchising Code of Conduct and Australian Consumer Law.Exceptional skills in drafting, negotiation, and providing commercial advice.Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.DesirableExperience working in-house in a franchised or hospitality/retail business.Exposure to intellectual property and brand protection.Pragmatic, business-oriented approach to legal problem-solving.Why Join Burger Urge?At Burger Urge, we offer more than just a job; we offer the opportunity to be part of a brand that’s making waves in the industry.
