Job Summary JOB DESCRIPTION Responsible for performing welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks to repair, maintain, and construct metal structures, equipment, and piping systems onboard the rig.Roles & ResponsibilitiesRig Operations:Performs various welding, cutting, brazing, and burning tasks as needed, including site preparation and material handling.Obtains necessary work permits prior to commencing electric welding or using grinding equipment and completes required paperwork accordingly.Ensure a fire watcher is in place, when necessary, in accordance with Client and Company procedure.Inspects welded joints for visible defects, correct dimensions, bead formation, weld penetration and conformance to work order and layout specification.Executes repairs, construction, or modifications to rig equipment and structures in compliance with applicable standards.Fabricates and installs new sections of pipe and steel in accordance with industry regulations.Assists with non-welding duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure safe and efficient operations.Immediately reports any equipment damage to rig supervisors.Materials & EquipmentMaintains welding and cutting equipment including oxygen and acetylene bottles in a clean, safe & serviceable condition.Maintains the Welder workshop in a clean, tidy and hazard free condition.Disposes debris as per the company’s hazardous material segregations policy and as per waste management policy taking into consideration the environmental & safety aspects.DocumentationMaintains accurate records (reports & logs) of welding activities and materials where work has taken place, to assist in the weight control process. Reports steel weights added and removed to the Barge Master for light ship additions and calculation. Ensures personal welding certification coding is current and complies with company standards.Inventory ManagementEnsures an adequate supply of consumables are available for welding and fabrication operations.Job RequirementsEducation & Experience:Minimum education level required: High School or Vocational/Technical education.Holds current or has evidence of expired coding certificates for example 3G, 6G or ABS or other class certification. At least two (2) years of working experience in drilling and workover operations with a reputable drilling contractor.Knowledge of fabrication and pipework would be advantageous along with experience in welding stainless steel and mixed metal alloys.Preferred to have working experience on Offshore rigs.Skills/Competencies RequiredWorking knowledge of the English language.Situation Awareness, Communication, Teamwork.Physical RequirementsAbility to perform extremely heavy work.Ability to work in extreme heights “does not suffer from Acrophobia”.Ability to work in closed areas “does not suffer from Claustrophobia”. Constantly climbing (stairs, ladders).Constantly pushing & pulling in accordance with Company procedure.Constantly bending, twisting, and standing.Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.Ability to work outdoors under all extreme weather conditions (Noise / Humidity / Cold / Heat).Ability to work in day/night shift with 12-hour minimum shifts.CertificationsValid ABS 6G/6GR Certificate.
