Job Description

DescriptionOBJECTIVE: The Wellness Manager is responsible for leading, designing, and implementing comprehensive wellness initiatives that promote healthy living, mental health, nutrition, and family engagement aligned with Stars’ mission, vision, and outcomes. This role ensures strategic execution of key wellness initiatives with measurable outcomes across physical, emotional, spiritual, and environmental domains. ScopeThis position plays a vital leadership role on the Stars wellness team. The Wellness Manager works across departments, with internal and external partners, and directly with families to build a culture of community well-being.

The Wellness Manager also oversees Stars’ Villa 500 Wellness Center and provides supervision to the Wellness Coordinator and other wellness team members. ClassificationThis position is classified as non-exemptCompensation$25–$28 per hour (32–35 hours per week)Some evening and weekend events requiredRelationshipsReports to: Associate Director of Program Planning & EvaluationSupervises: Wellness Coordinator, Wellness Assistant, AmeriCorps VISTA(s) (as applicable)Collaborates with: Head Clinical Supervisor, Stars program leads, community wellness partners, local universities, faith-based organizationsQualificationsThe ideal candidate will demonstrate:

Background in mental health, public health, counseling, or wellness (required); dual experience preferredExperience in trauma-informed care and working with families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgroundsProven ability to supervise and lead teams effectivelyStrong project management, coordination, and communication skillsFamiliarity with ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), food justice, and family systemsPassion for youth and family development, and alignment with Stars’ mission and valuesProficiency in Google Workspace; project management tools a plusBilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not requiredRequirementsDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Wellness Program ImplementationDesign and lead wellness programs that ensure:

100% of participating families consume meals made up of 60% fruits/vegetables, 20% grains, and no more than 20% animal protein100% of families understand healthy meal preparation and food sourcingOversee the Community wellness plans for active lifestyle, and wellbeing and quarterly experiences tied to the Christian liturgical calendarCoordinate and oversee weekly food distribution and community nutrition educationSupervise and support life coaching/case management services for at least 50% of participating familiesProvide ongoing support and professional development to the Wellness CoordinatorDevelop programs for fire impacted families. Develop programs to help with wellbeing through toolkits, small groups, wellness mentoring programs.

Mental Health & Villa 500 Wellness CenterSchedule and manage 12 hours of weekly therapy services at the Villa 500 Wellness CenterCollaborate closely with Stars’ Head Clinical Supervisor to ensure trauma-informed, high-quality careSupport integration of mental health into wellness programming through group and individual sessionsTrauma-Informed Care & ACEs PreventionDeliver trauma-informed training for Stars’ staff and families, including: Social determinants of healthSystems of oppressionExpanded ACEs frameworkDevelop prevention programs that promote family resilience and holistic wellbeingCommunity Engagement & Family ActivitiesEngage at least 10 families quarterly through Stars wellness offeringsCoordinate family-oriented wellness activities such as:

Fitness and movement classesFinancial literacy workshopsCommunity gardening and composting sessionsFood safety and healthy cooking workshopsStrategic Partnerships and Collaborative ResearchBuild and maintain partnerships with: Cultural brokers and community leadersColleges and universities for student trainees and research partnershipsChurches and faith-based organizationsCommunity gardens and food justice coalitionsIdentify and support opportunities for collaborative wellness research and impact evaluationWorking Conditions And Physical RequirementsPhysical ability to work around children including sitting, standing, kneeling and climbing stairs for extended periods of time. Work at a computer, requiring the ability to send and receive information with necessary optical, auditory, and manual dexterity.

Use a keyboard and mouse to enter, retrieve or transfer words or data information and/or move from screen to screen on the computer to view information. Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; comprehend and speak English. Display the reading skills necessary to proofread written material.
