Job DescriptionRemarkable people, trusted by clients to design and advance the worldWood is recruiting for a SME - Cost Estimator to join its Projects team focusing on delivering across FEED and Detail design scopes of work. In this role, you will be responsible for preparation, review, and submission of accurate estimates of how much it will cost to provide a client or potential client with services. Responsible and accountable for the development of project estimates and ensuring they are prepared to the required level of detail and accuracy in accordance with contractual requirements and Wood policies, procedures, and standards.

Acts as focal point for all aspects of estimating support to the project/contract team and client, managing the communications interfaces essential for the delivery of the estimates. Position is based in Oman for a long-term assignment. ResponsibilitiesThe SME - Cost Estimator will be responsible:

Verify and approve the Basis of Estimate for project cost estimates for wider approvalDevelop, issue, and maintain project cost estimates in accordance with the Basis of Estimate including statements of work scope, assumptions, man-hour estimates, narratives, and review & comment of client documentsFacilitate and chair the internal review of project cost estimates, ensuring updates are actioned and estimate approval is obtained as requiredReview and deliver estimates to Wood management and the client for approvalReview and ensure updates to projects cost estimates are completed in a controlled mannerLiaise with other Project Controls disciplines to ensure projects budgets and schedules are developed to reflect the structure and content of the approved project cost estimateLiaise with engineering, procurement, subcontract and construction functions to maintain awareness of the requirements and costs of labour, plant and equipment, materials, subcontracts, offices, IT, and other provisions, to ensure these are accurately reflected in the project cost estimateAccountable for the formal filing of project and proposal estimates, the collection of project historical data and the continuous update of estimating databases and norms in a controlled manner.

Review and issue change orders in accordance with the appropriate change notificationsMay Review and communicate cost and schedule impact of change notificationsLead and participate in Project Controls Compliance and Continuous Improvement ReviewsPlay a key role in the mentoring and career development of Estimating personnelEnsure estimates are prepared in compliance with Wood processes, procedures, and guidelinesPromote the use of standard estimating systems, procedures, and work methodsDeveloping project specific estimate plans, schedules, and basis within the project teamReviewing and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotesPerforming detailed quantitative, cost, and productivity analysisPlan, schedule, and lead the estimate review and presentation processPresentation of the estimate to Wood and Client managementMaintenance and support of historical estimating databases, escalation indices, and productivity dataDesigning the future.

ExperienceRequires bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical or business discipline Typically requires a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive industry experience, with at least eight (8) years in estimating positions.

Thorough knowledge of estimating techniques and systems with a detailed knowledge of how these are appliedExcellent understanding of project management principles and techniquesExcellent understanding of Cost Management, Change Control, Planning & Risk Analysis & ManagementPrior experience in a Senior Estimating role and managing a team.
