Job Description

Senior Scientist – Battery Design and EngineeringLOCATION: Ghislenghien, BelgiumRole ResponsibilitiesNano‑Silicon Anode Roadmap: Define the long‑term scientific roadmap and performance targets for nanosilicon anodes. Translate strategic goals into proof points and measurable milestones, frame hypotheses to address technical challenges, and guide experimental validation. Success measures: clear roadmap and milestones, demonstrable improvements in cell performance aligned to commercial targets. Cell Architecture & Lab Blueprint: Specify next‑generation cell chemistries and architectures, create process flow maps and scale‑up pathways, and establish lab protocols and infrastructure requirements. Success measures: fully operational lab with calibrated workflows and validated scale‑up plans. Data & Analytics:

Design experimental frameworks and test matrices, implement data capture standards and analytics dashboards, and interpret trends to inform product strategy. Success measures: high‑quality datasets and dashboards that drive product decisions and accelerate readiness for commercialization. Material Characterization & Modelling: Lead advanced characterization efforts and structure–property modelling to identify breakthrough opportunities and inform development priorities. Support robust documentation for IP and patent filings. Success measures: established advanced characterization capabilities, actionable insights, and impactful IP submissions. Commercial Enablement & Technical Tools: Translate scientific outcomes into compelling value propositions, technical datasheets, benchmark narratives, and customer‑facing materials.

Coach and support Business Development for technically robust customer engagements. Success measures: positive customer feedback, clearer technical positioning, and improved RFQ conversion. Strategic Partnerships & Thought Leadership: Curate and sustain collaborations with universities, consortia, and national labs for joint research and co‑publications. Represent the organization at conferences and panels and mentor team members to foster innovation. Success measures: initiated and sustained strategic collaborations, published outputs, and strengthened scientific reputation. Cross‑functional Collaboration & Mentorship: Work closely with Manufacturing/Scale‑up, Electrochemistry, Cell Engineering, and Business Development teams to ensure successful transfer of R&D outcomes.

Mentor peers and junior staff to build a culture of innovation and operational excellence. ORGANIZATION CHART (clarified) - Peer relationships: other Senior Scientists within R&D (e. g. , Cell Engineering, Electrochemistry) who collaborate on cross-functional projects. Immediate superior: R&D Head (Belgium) — this role reports directly to the R&D Head. Role designation: Senior Scientist – Battery Design and Engineering. Direct reports (typical): Senior Scientist – Conductive (1) — direct report responsible for conductive material R&D. Research Associate / Lab Technician(s) (0–2) — supporting experimental work and routine lab operations (as resourcing permits). Matrix / dotted-line relationships:

the role will have strong collaborative (dotted-line) links to Manufacturing/Scale-up leads for process transfer and to Business Development for customer technical engagements. Notes to remove duplication and ambiguity: the above consolidates the reporting lines into a single clear hierarchy (direct manager, direct reports, peers and matrix partners). Previous repeated entries have been removed and replaced with a concise description of role interactions and typical headcount for direct reports. Qualifications & ExperienceBasic education: Graduation in Chemistry (or related)Postgraduate: Postgraduate / PhD in Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, or Chemical EngineeringExperience:

5–10 years of hands-on R&D in conductive materials, battery research, or energy storage systems; strong preference for anode material development experienceKey Skills & Industry Keywords (concise for searchability): Core technical skills: Battery chemistry & cell design: silicon anode, nanosilicon, electrode formulation, electrolyte formulation, coin/pouch cell assemblyMaterials characterization: SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, BET, TGA, ICP, RamanElectrochemical testing & analysis: galvanostatic cycling, CV, EIS, rate capability, coulombic efficiencyLab operations & scale-up: SOPs, lab setup, safety compliance, process flow, pilot-scale transferData & modelling: DOE, experimental design, Python/R/MATLAB, data visualization, structure–property modellingIP, documentation & commercialization: patent support, technical datasheets, publications, customer-facing technical materialsCross-functional skills:
