4 dead as fire breaks out in footwear shop in South Delhi’s Tigri Extension

A massive fire broke out in a four-storey building in South Delhi’s Tigri Extension on Saturday evening, leaving three men and one woman dead and one woman injured, police said. The blaze was reported to police at 6.24 pm, said officers. A police team reached the spot to find the structure engulfed in flames, with the blaze believed to have originated from a footwear shop located on the ground floor of the building, said police. Officers said fire services were alerted immediately, and rescue efforts were initiated by local police and residents before fire tenders arrived. During the search of the premises, three male victims were found dead. One of them was identified as Satender (38), the owner of the building. The identities of the two other men are yet to be ascertained. The woman, Anita (40), who was the sister of the building's owner, died while receiving treatment at Safdarjung Hospital. Crime and forensic teams have been called to inspect the site and collect evidence to determine the cause of the fire. Police said further investigation is underway.
