Cardiff City already know their first summer signing as 'class' player blows team-mates away

Cardiff City may already have their first permanent signing for next season lined up - and it's the man who continues to blow his team-mates away on a weekly basis. Nathan Trott delivered another match-defining performance in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Northampton Town, producing a stunning one-on-one stop to deny Elliott List at 2-1 and preserve Cardiff ’s lead at a crucial moment. It was the latest in a long line of big saves from the on-loan goalkeeper, whose form has underpinned the Bluebirds’ promotion charge as they sit top of League One. In the third tier this season, only Burton Albion’s Bradley Collins (80%) boasts a higher save percentage than Trott’s 78.9%, a statistic that reflects the 27-year-old’s staggering consistency since arriving from FC Copenhagen in the summer. Captain Calum Chambers was left in awe once again after Trott’s display. “He was outstanding,” said Chambers. “They put a bit of pressure on us in the second half and he stepped up. “Some of the saves he made were unbelievable. He's been doing that all season. He is class. “He was there when we needed him. He kept us in the game, he kept us in front. "We want to give him as little work as possible - we tried to stop Nathan having to do too much in goal - but when he needed to, he was top, top class.” There is a long way to go until next summer, but you would be hard pressed to find a Bluebirds supporter who wouldn't want to see Trott in a City shirt next season, regardless of the division. The goalkeeper's loan deal includes an option to buy that activates if the Bluebirds return to the Championship. Last month, Trott made it clear that a permanent move would appeal if Cardiff go up . “You never know how things will turn out, but if we get promoted, there’s a possibility I could be bought,” he told Danish outlet Tipsbladet. “If everything continues as it is, it would make sense for me to continue in the environment where I have developed so much.” Trott, whose Copenhagen contract runs until 2028, was the club’s No.1 at the start of last season before falling out of favour amid a reported strained relationship with head coach Jacob Neestrup. Danish reports suggest he would prefer not to return, further pointing to Cardiff as a likely destination for his long-term future. Cardiff have an excellent track record of recruiting goalkeepers, however they've struggled in that department in recent years. Many Bluebirds fans, however, hope they've already found a long-term custodian. --- Follow all of our social channels to ensure you stay up to date with the latest Bluebirds news.
