Mr Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, recently launched the national World Cup Planning Committee to oversee preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This global event is set to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The advisory committee, led by Mr Debrah, will be responsible for the general planning and coordination of activities leading up to the tournament.

Committee Members

The Ministerial Oversight Committee for Ghana's participation in the 2026 World Cup comprises key individuals from various sectors. These include Mr Stan Xoese Dogbe from the Office of the President, Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, the Sports and Recreation Minister, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Foreign Affairs Minister, and Mr George Opare Addo, the Youth Development Minister. Additionally, the committee features Mr Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the Deputy Finance Minister, and Mr Yussif Issaka Jajah, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.

  • Mr Abedi Ayew, a retired Captain of the Black Stars, and Mr Kurt E. S. Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association, bring their expertise in football to the committee.
  • Mrs Wilhelmina Asamoah, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Madam Elizabeth Yankah, Deputy National Security Coordinator, and a representative from the private sector complete the diverse composition of the committee.
