‘Christian genocide’: Kwankwaso reacts to Trump’s invasion threat against Nigeria

…calls for diplomatic engagement, unity among Nigerians Former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has called on Nigerians to remain united in the face of growing tensions following threats from the United States over the nation’s security situation. In a post on X on Sunday, Kwankwaso expressed concern about recent comments by the U.S. President Donald Trump, who had designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.” He stressed that Nigeria remains a sovereign nation confronting various security challenges that cut across religious, ethnic, and political lines. The former governor urged the United States to support Nigeria with advanced technology and intelligence to combat insecurity instead of issuing threats that could worsen divisions within the country. He also advised the Nigerian government to appoint special envoys and permanent ambassadors to engage diplomatically with the U.S. and protect Nigeria’s interests on the international stage. Kwankwaso appealed to citizens to embrace unity and solidarity, describing the current situation as a time for collective strength rather than division. This is coming after Trump, in a post on his Truth Social account on Saturday, instructed the U.S. War Department to prepare for a possible strike in Nigeria. He accused the Nigerian government of turning a blind eye to what he described as the “genocide of Christians” across the country. Trump warned that the United States would immediately halt all aid and assistance to Nigeria if the attacks on Christians continue. He also indicated that America might intervene militarily to eliminate what he called “Islamic terrorists” responsible for the killings. “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Trump wrote. He further stated, “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!” ALSO READ TOP STORIES FROM NIGERIAN TRIBUNE
