Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the Congress and RJD should be made to respond to the “abuse and insult” of Bihar and its people, in an apparent reference to alleged statements made by opposition parties like the DMK in other states.
Taking a swipe at the term Mahagathbandhan – the name of the opposition alliance in Bihar – Modi said the people of the state call them “lathbandhan” (a coalition of criminals).
Modi alleged the INDIA bloc “harbours hatred towards Biharis” and they should answer why. “It is unfortunate that nowadays, the allies of the lathbandhan across the country insult the people of Bihar, assault them, and harbour hatred towards Biharis,” he said during his interaction with BJP workers at a booth sammelan programme.
He said: “Therefore, the Congress and RJD should be asked to answer – ‘Tell us, in such-and-such state, the people of the INDI alliance are insulting the people of Bihar, what is your response’?”
He said Chief Minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar and the NDA have worked hard to bring Bihar out of “darkness”.
“Today, there is no ‘jungle raj’ in Bihar, but the rule of “jan vishwas“. Today, every child in Bihar proudly says, ‘I am a Bihari’,” he said.
The Prime Minister took on the opposition, especially targeting the RJD, for propagating ‘jungle raj’ in Bihar – an apparent reference to the time when Bihar was under the rule of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. He said this will be discussed for another 100 years and no matter how hard the opposition tries to hide its misdeeds, people will not forgive it.
Training his guns at the RJD-Congress tie-up on a day Tejashwi Yadav was declared the chief ministerial candidate of the opposition for the upcoming assembly elections, he said the opposition alliance is not a gathbandhan but a lathbandhan (a coalition of criminals) as all its leaders from Delhi and Bihar are out on bail.
Interacting with a BJP worker, the Prime Minister said a “mahayagya” of development is going on in the country, with all-round work being carried out due to a stable government at the Centre and in Bihar.
“In Bihar, work is happening in every sector, in every direction. Hospitals are being built, good schools are being established and new railway routes are being developed. A major reason for this is that there is a stable government in the country and in Bihar. When there is stability, development accelerates. This is the strength of Bihar’s NDA government as well,” he said.
Bihar will go to polls in two phases on November 6 and 11. The counting of votes will take place on November 14.
