Emma Chisit? Check your Karen Vallance | Brief letters

And not only mondegreen subtitles (Letters, 2 October). In the spirit of Emma Chisit, I approached my newsagent with my Guardian vouchers to pay what I owed. In a broad Australian accent, he asked my address and looked up his ledger. “Karen Vallance?” he enquired. “Oh no, no, my name’s Mary!” “Yeah I know that! I’m askin’ do yer want ya current balance?”

• Unfortunately, all wills in the UK are not public documents post-probate (Letters, 26 September). That is only true of those in England and Wales. I can recommend the official gov.uk probate record download service, which makes English and Welsh wills available 14 days after probate has been granted for a very commendable £1.50 each.

• How my spirits soared when my eye caught the start of your headline “Nigel Farage’s deportation…” (Letters, 26 September).
Then I read the rest of it.

• Escape to the country? No chance. Even Country Diary (1 October) is now political. Please, I need a break from all that.
