SMU won its third game in a row last week, hammering visiting Louisville 38-6 to improve to 6-1 in the ACC. Kevin Jennings accounted for four touchdowns, throwing for 303 yards and three scores while also running for a TD, while Shaadie Clayton-Johnson ripped off a 50-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. T.J. Harden finished with 90 yards on 18 carries and caught a scoring pass as well. Jordan Hudson had eight catches for 96 yards and a touchdown, and Yamir Knight snagged a touchdown pass.

Cal lost its hold on the Stanford Axe, losing the Big Game last week at Stanford 31-10. Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele’s seven-yard touchdown run gave the Golden Bears a 10-7 lead with 4:38 left in the first half, but it was all Stanford from that point on. Sagapolutele threw for 269 yards, with Trond Grizzell catching nine passes for 104 yards, but the run game was stifled to the tune of 20 yards, with Sagapolutele taking five sacks. Cal turned the ball over three times, with Stanford turning two of those into defensive scores.

The Mustangs can still get into the ACC title game with a loss on Saturday, but would need losses by Pitt, Virginia, Duke, and NC State in the best-case scenario. SMU is 2-0 all-time against Cal, winning 38-6 at home last season.
