I am here to stay with Ghana- Black Queens coach dismisses talk of exiting role

Head coach of Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team, the Black Queens, Kim Lars Bjorkegren has dismissed the idea of exiting his role in the lead up to Ghana’s participation in the 2026 CAF Women’s AFCON in Morocco. He said this at a presser after guiding Ghana to next year’s competition via a 7-0 win on aggregate over Egypt in a two legged qualifier. After leading Ghana to clinch bronze at the 2024 AFCON, which was Ghana’s first medal win at the tournament since 2016, there were rumours of Bjorkegren potentially exiting the head coaching role for a more lucrative job based off his exploits at the tournament. He dismissed those suggestions before and reiterated his commitment to the course of the Black Queens after the second leg game against Egypt by stating, “No I will not [leave]. To be completely honest, I had another 14 offers at the time I signed for Ghana. I wanted to be here in Ghana and I think I can help the girls.” “Together, I think we are on the way to something really really good…so I’m here to stay with the girls” Bjorkegren said. The 2026 Women’s AFCON will serve as qualifiers to the 2027 Women’s World Cup; semifinalists automatically qualify to the world event.
