Moment Prince William refuses to be drawn on Andrew scandal and Harry-Meghan rift

Prince William has refused to be drawn on the Andrew scandal and his ongoing rift with Harry and Meghan in new comments about his family. The Prince of Wales was speaking at the Earthshot Prize ceremony during a five-day visit to Brazil when he was asked by CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour about recent "changes" in his family. But he chose to focus instead on why he set up the global environmental competition, which awards £1million to five people each year who find solutions to "repair" the planet. He said: "I think the Earthshot prize is a classic example of change. Rather than talk about it, we’re doing it, and that’s where I want it to be. "These people in here are the true action heroes of our time and change will come by backing them, not by what I do. "And so I want to surround myself with people who want to make change and do good in the world ." The star-studded ceremony in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday evening saw appearances from Kylie Minogue and Canadian singer Shawn Mendes, as well as Prime Minister Keir Starmer , who said the UK was "doubling down" on its commitments to tackling climate change. Prince Harry has meanwhile penned a 'love letter to Britain' as he called for veterans not to be forgotten Harry, who undertook two frontline tours to Afghanistan , released passionate essay ahead of Remembrance Day, in which he describes the privilege of serving alongside men and women from all four corners of the UK. In it, he calls on people to remember "not only the fallen, but the living" who carry the "weight of war" and urges them to knock on veterans’ doors and "join them for a cuppa…or a pint" to hear their stories and "remind them their service still matters". It is understood Harry’s words were released on Wednesday to avoid drawing focus away from William’s major speech at the Cop30 climate talks in the Amazon on Thursday, and from Remembrance events such as the Field of Remembrance on Thursday, the annual Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday and commemorations at the Cenotaph on Sunday. It comes after King Charles officially stripped his disgraced brother Andrew Mountbatten Windsor of both his HRH style and his prince title. The King formalised the changes, which were dramatically announced a week ago, by issuing a Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm which was published in The Gazette, the UK’s official public record, by the Crown Office. The entry, published on Wednesday, read: “THE KING has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated 3 November 2025 to declare that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor shall no longer be entitled to hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of ‘Royal Highness’ and the titular dignity of ‘Prince’.”
