No explosives found in suspicious package that closed Vernon skate park

No explosives were found in a suspicious package that closed a Vernon skate park upon its discovery Saturday, Nov. 1. The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said Tuesday the package did not contain any explosives. It was seized for further examination once it was determined safe to do so by the RCMP’s explosive disposal unit, which attended the skate park at Polson Park Saturday. An area of Polson Park was cordoned off by police tape Saturday morning. The large closed-off area surrounding the skate park was reopened to the public around 8 p.m. “The package was found in an open area near the skate park and frontline officers have cordoned off the area to ensure the safety of the public,” stated Vernon North Okanagan RCMP in a press release Saturday. The entrance and exit to Polson Park from 25th Avenue was also blocked off, with a police vehicle remaining at the scene throughout the day. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
