Papagomo arrested, under probe for sedition

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: Police arrested blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris, whose alter ego is believed to be Papagomo, on a sedition probe early this morning. Lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali said Wan Azri was arrested at about 12.30am and is expected to be taken to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at 9.30am for a remand order. In a brief statement, he said the investigation is under the Sedition Act 1948, but did not specify where Wan Azri, 42, was arrested or what case the arrest was in connection with. On Sept 24, Wan Azri was ordered by the Kuala Lumpur sessions court to enter his defence on a charge of making a seditious statement involving the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. He was accused of making the seditious statement in a post on X, under the account sir_azri, at a condominium in Bukit Bintang at noon on April 29. On Sept 3, the sessions court acquitted him of a charge of making seditious remarks alleging that the government was pro-Israel. The Attorney-General’s Chambers said it would file a notice of appeal against the decision.
