Savelugu (N/R), Oct. 20, GNA – The Parliamentary Committee on Local Government and Rural Development has commended the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Savelugu, Mr Alhassan Fuseini, for demonstrating exemplary leadership and deep understanding of local governance and development issues within the municipality.
The commendation was made when the committee, chaired by Madam Sawyerr Maame Pokuah Queenstar, engaged officials of the Savelugu Municipal Assembly as part of its oversight responsibilities.
During the session, members of the committee lauded Mr Fuseini for his transparent and collaborative approach to governance, describing his leadership as a model for other assemblies.
They noted that his detailed responses during the interaction reflected a sound grasp of the municipality’s development priorities and challenges.
Mr Fuseini in a remark, attributed the progress made in Savelugu to the collective efforts of key stakeholders, particularly the Paramount Chief of Savelugu, Yoo Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani, whose support he described as crucial to sustaining peace and driving development initiatives in the area.
He identified some of the pressing challenges confronting the municipality, which included the deplorable nature of road networks and called the urgent need for rehabilitation and expansion of the Savelugu market.
The MCE hinted that addressing those concerns would significantly boost economic activities and improve zthe9⁷ living standards of residents.
The committee acknowledged the issues raised by the MCE, expressing particular concern about the state of internal roads and market infrastructure.
Members assured the assembly of their commitment to supporting efforts to tackle the challenges through relevant government interventions and partnerships.
Madam Sawyerr reiterated Parliament’s commitment to strengthening local governance structures, emphasizing that effective leadership at the municipal level was key to achieving equitable and sustainable national development.
The committee’s commendation, she added, was a reflection of the confidence reposed in the MCE’s leadership and his dedication to fostering inclusivity and accountability in governance.
The engagement formed part of the committee’s nationwide tour to assess the performance of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and to gather first-hand information on their development challenges and achievements.
