Respect the unions

Dear Editor, I am writing to express my deep concern about the ongoing neglect and lack of respect the Government of The Bahamas has shown toward its citizens. The prime minister’s recent national address was not only unfulfilling but felt like a slap in the face to those who hold the government accountable for its promises. The prime minister’s disrespectful remarks aimed at the union leader during a public broadcast were a disgrace and an embarrassment to our nation. Such behavior undermines the serious advocacy unions provide and diminishes the respect our leaders should show to those who fight for the rights and needs of the people. Promises made by the government, including financial commitments and support for hard-working Bahamians, remain unfulfilled. The people deserve the funds that were promised and acknowledgment of their hard work and dedication. It is disheartening to see leadership over-promise and under-deliver, leaving many frustrated and neglected. While the prime minister has stated his opposition to bullying, it is important to recognize that bullying can take many forms. Attacking individuals who represent the collective voice of the people only creates division and further alienates the government from its citizens. Our leaders must support and respect the work of unions, which advocate for their members’ rights. Peaceful demonstration is part of our democratic process and should be recognized as a valid means for citizens to express grievances and aspirations. I hope our leadership will embrace greater accountability and foster respectful dialogue with the people they serve. — Dr. Jacqueline Penn Knowles FNM candidate for Marathon

Respect the unions

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my deep concern about the ongoing neglect and lack of respect the Government of The Bahamas has shown toward its citizens.
