US Flight Cancellations Could Lead To Wobbly Start For Tourism High Season

According to the Executive Director of the BTIA, Belize will feel the effects of it: Jules Vasquez "In the near term, in the immediate short term will it create a shortfall at the start of the high season?" We are hopeful that it will come to a resolution." "Right now it is pretty much trying to see where we can mitigate the impact that we will have. Brace for it. Because, you know, we don't have any control over what is happening. But really look at it from a perspective whereby it gives us now the opportunity, to realize that there is a need to diversify." "You know, we have Central America, I'm very much engaged in terms of really trying to get the whole, regional integration, on point, and really getting members to, to start to look outside of, of the box, pretty much, noh? To avoid situations like these, as you know. You know, if the US sneezes, you know, we catch the cold, kind of thing. And, and it does reflect right now. You know, it's it's a very, it's going to be very challenging for, for many hoteliers right now. In terms of, you know, the impact that this will create, leading up to high season." "I mean, we're, we're, we're really in the high season, as is, these cancellations right now furlough of workers in the airports in the US, all of this has and will have a direct impact on our industry." So far indications are that international flights will not be affected by the cancellations.
